ProMOS to exit PC DRAM business

To focus on LCD drivers

The razor sharp margins in the commodity DRAM business have now caused ProMOS (TPO:5387) to completely exit its business for PC DRAM and in the future focus solely on specialty DRAM and LCD drivers according to chairman ML Chen.

ProMOS is licensing most of its IP from Japan’s Elpida and will use its spare capacity for contract manufacturing of LCD driver chips.

ProMOS announced their completed joint technology development project with Silterra Malaysia, moving Silterra’s 130nm and 110nm HV process technology for small-panel LCD driver IC applications to its only fab, which is a 12-inch plant at the Central Taiwan Science Park (CTSP), that accommodates about 60,000 wafer starts per month.S|A
