VIA goes fan-less and embedded

New embedded board features 1.2 or 1.0GHz processor

The latest news in the embedded space comes from Taiwanese VIA Technologies (TPE:2388), which is launching an embedded board together with a chassis. The board with the name EITX-3002 is in the industrial Em-ITX form factor and comes in 2 flavors with different processors.

One comes with the 1.2GHz VIA Nano X2 E-Series whereas the other is populated with the 1.0GHz VIA Eden X2 dual core processor.

The board features comprehensive I/O support in dual I/O coastlines include an HDMI port, VGA port, two Gigabit Ethernet ports, dual COM ports supporting RS-232/422/485 jumper-less by BIOS setting, two USB ports, two USB 3.0 ports (optional), and power and HDD activity LEDs. Both boards of course support embedded graphics that allow for 1080p playback.

Both boards are rather special in so far as the processor is mounted on one side of the board and all the I/O is mounted on the other side.

Both boards fit in the accompanying VIA AMOS-5002 modular industrial chassis kit, which, according to the press release from VIA, is an ultra compact solution designed to take full advantage of the VIA EITX-3002 board, making it easy to create a broad spectrum of easy to assemble fan-less system designs for a wide variety of  embedded applications.

With this new board and chassis VIA is again ready to fight back against both the AMD E-series as well as Intel’s embedded offerings from the Atom-series of processors.  As usual VIA is out front when it comes to new innovative features making the total system as small as possible.S|A
