AMD Prepares to Field Great Horned Owl and Banded Kestrel

Someone is getting hawkish on the embedded market…

2015 AMD LogoAMD is planning on releasing two Zen cored 14nm APUs targeted at embedded applications codenamed Great Horned Owl and Banded Kestrel. Horned Owl is a variant of next year’s Raven Ridge mainstream APU and Banded Kestrel is a separate design that essentially offers half the resources of Horned Owl. Both chips are pin-compatible and thus will be offered to the embedded market in the same FP5 BGA package. A version of Horned Owl will be offered for the AM4 socket. Expect to see Horned Owl in late 2017 and Banded Kestrel in mid-2018.
