Its pretty dissapointing
![]() I really would have liked my next laptop to have AMD graphics but I will buy whoever has the best mobile 28nm chip out first. (not 640m, more like 660m or 7870m) AMD really need to get mind/market share in this segment but seems they dont care... |

I think there may be 2 things holding up the mobile chips:
1- Ivy Bridge laptops being released, 7000M may be released with them. No sense in popping the 7000M into existing products. 2- Waiting for new Trinity laptops to be released. Again, no sense in popping the 7000M into existing Llano products. |

Yeah but you have to admit that with Kepler mobile already leaked (acer laptop with 640M) it seems strange that AMD have no part even leaked yet despite having such a lead on the 28nm process...

I am seeing a whole bunch of 100W TDP GTX 675M laptops leak. What am I missing? A Cape Verde 7800M is probably going to match it out using less than half the power and Pitcairn 7900M is going to lay waste to it still using less power. In short, GF114 is no match for GCN Pitcairn/CV on laptops. For that matter, even on desktops crippled Pitcairn / 7850 is faster than the top GF114 / 560Ti whilst using half the power... that is literally 2x perf/W. So what is going on here? Is it just because of Optimus? Mass bribery? Bad marketing from AMD / short supply?

Finally some news. I noticed that notebookcheck had listed the new 79xxM and 77xxM graphicscards and gave as the sources http://www.techarp.com/showarticle.aspx?artno=98&pgno=4 and http://dell.benyouhui.it168.com/thread-2001911-1-1.html

Exactly what I meant... The HD 7950M will be 20% faster while using half the power. It makes no sense that OEMs are opting for GTX 675M over HD 7950M. In fact, even a 7870M will match or beat it, using maybe 1/3rd the power.
One thing though, about the 1536SP for 7970M, I would have guessed it would be 1280SP and Pitcairn, though maybe they added in a salvage Tahiti? There's no space for a 7930 on the desktop arena after all with 7870 already so close to 7950. |
