Well, XBOX may have a big die, alright. But Sony too? You are almost equating both.

But that's 2.56TF, not 1.8TF.

The latest rumor is Intel CPU for the Durango.

$400 price point for next PlayStation, Xbox consoles
By Matt Martin

October launch for PS4, next Xbox in November, suggests Baird Equity Research

"Moreover, a PC-based architecture (Intel chips in the case of Xbox) should have a number of advantages over custom-developed silicon: for one, the learning curve for software developers will be shorter than completely new technology. Second, the cost of production and retail price points should be lower than prior console launches.
So Oban is just the GPU and a quadcore Haswell is the CPU? Well, at least Haswell could emulate the Xbox 360 CPU, unlike the Piledriver.

Weren't you arguing that Microsoft wouldn't put anything in Xbox unless they "owned the design"? So Intel sold them the rights to their Haswell design, is that it? lol

Oh, so that 1.8TF is for PS4, not XBOX Next. I am getting confused.... Well, for PS4, then, you could save a lot of die space using just workable shaders. It could give you like 80mm^2 in total.

I got if from here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Souther...ds_(GPU_family)

212 is for 7870. Saving space instead of fusing off shaders would give for 7850 at most, 212 - 212*1024/1280, 42mm^2. A bit more if more shadders were cut and clock increased.

Well, I actually was stating the fused off part is at most 42mm^2, since I did not include the non SP part... Sure, the die sizes are the same, I just meant excluding parts instead of fusing them off. But I am not sure if that is enough to give more than 80mm^2.

How is it that Haswell can solve the 128 resiter dilemma that you claimed was prrof positive of a Power-based solution?

How is it that MS will happily buy Haswell chips, even though they can never bond it to the GPU for cost-savings?

How is it that Intel can sell millions of units of Haswell on at least 75% discount to MS without crashing their ASP and margins?

Has Intel licensed the design to MS, who has integrated it with AMD's graphics IP and other misc modules, and then brought it back to Intel for fabbing?

This "news" doesn't pass the smell-test, and you should know it!

8 jaguar plus Oland Xt

50W (about) + 160W = 210W TDP

Does this sound about right?

Will it run too hot to put in a console?
