I have a feeling a lot of those people are stuck on those systems because they can't afford something better, or the money invested isn't worth it. Personally, I don't see a new motherboard + Intel CPU being worth as an upgrade, because it doesn't offer enough performance for the price.

Personally, that's how I've been (maybe I'm projecting). But there hasn't been a massive increase in performance in CPUs from my FX 8350 to warrant the $300+ I'd have to spend on a decent upgrade. I have little reason to upgrade. I'm hoping Zen can solve that.

A big part of upgrading your CPU if you've built your own rig is knowing if the cost is worth it. My FX 8350 is not fast enough for stuff I do. But it's not worth it to spend a bunch of money on an i7 with HT or 6 or 8 cores because the money isn't worth it.

8 core at $1000 + motherboard, absolutely not worth it
8 core at $500 + motherboard, thinking about it
8 core at $350 + motherboard, day one purchase

I think a lot of people are in my situation, see how much an old CPU can bottleneck a good graphics card now, it's gotten pretty bad.
You're looking at max specs, not min:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
●Processor: i5 6600K 3.5 GHz or AMD FX-6350 3.9 GHz
●Memory: 8 GB RAM
●Graphics: NVIDIAGeForce GTX 660 2GB or AMD Radeon HD 7850 2GB
Do people even play that demanding of games?

31,191 39,433 Warframe
30,566 42,156 H1Z1: King of the Kill
People just want to play games they like for as cheap as possible and will accept an "inferior" experience if it looks good enough.

Last batch of rumors...

1. CPU ready. The last delay is due to bug on mobos.

2. RyZen official presentation in late February.

3. Launch in first half of March. Only 8c16t model.

4. The 4c8t model available latter.

5. "Prices are not as cheap as you might think"

According to Chiphell user Wjm47196:

- Launch in March
- 4C/8T four months after 8C/16T
- (Fastest?) 8C/16T might not be cheap - he expects 3999-4999 RMB ($580-720)

Follow the link, use Google translate and you should have exactly what Juan posted.

Did not try myself, I'm too lazy on this Saturday

EDIT: well finally I could not resist, here is what Google translate thinks this means:
Quote:
1.2 at the end there will be a nda techday, released in mid-March
2. supply is ready, dragged on for so long because the motherboard bios debugging problems
3. The first listing only 8c16t, in April will follow up 4c8t
4. Price is not cheap, but there will not be some of the population of amd performance will be expensive to fly up the kind of
5. Game performance can be expected

5) Still not more expensive than intel sooo

3) Very weird that they launch the 8c16t first and not launch any lower tier model. Are yields that high that they need to wait a bit to get a large amount 8c/8T dies? Why dont they also launch the 4c8T model? Common sence indicates that it will be far easier to get the smaller chip working than the large one.

That s confidential info IMO, no need of link since there s some people who seems to know better than AMD s own employees..

there can both be a full stuck and limited availability outside of 1-2 SKUs.

No reason the statement and rumors cannot both be "correct"

Unlocking all CPUs really limits the viability of certain models imo, so at launch I'd expect to see one or two (SMT enabled/disabled) quad-core, hexa-core and a normal octo-core plus the Black Edition octo-core which I assume (maybe hoping? ) that the press will get.
