I remember Dell cancelling their 30" 4K OLED months ago. I think I even mentioned it in this actual thread. Glad to see they got one out, though I wonder what has changed.

I bet the supplier probably wouldn't do the price Dell wanted.

Than dell canceled it, and the supplier blinked.

On my own side note, here's to hoping for some new monitors in the back half of the year - maybe I don't follow it closely enough, but things have seemed slow for a while on this front. Looking forward to more HDR, and/or higher refresh options.

I just don't get why we haven't seen more HDR monitors yet.

I see 43" 4K TVs @ ~400nits <$650.

Yet no one can make a 500-600 nit 1080/1440/4K PC display for <1K?

Right now that market is pretty much LG for big OLEDs (i.e. TVs where they have ~100% market share), Samsung Display Corporations (SDC) for small OLEDs that are good or mediocre (~90% market share for phones, tablets, camera displays, etc) and the remaining ~10% of the smaller display market going to a few Chinese manufacturers.

This display is a size right in the middle of the market: big for SDC, small for LG. One way to tell is that LG usually uses an RGBW color system, whereas SDC is pure RGB. I haven't found any info on which technology it uses, but my guess is LG based on it being easier to scale down (in that DPI range anyway) than up.

Before this monitor came out the only OLED monitors you could get were professional Sony monitors. Their 30" model costs a mere $45,000. As such the "cheapest" 30" 4K OLED only fell by a modest ~92% today.

Don't know if anyone cares but I asked the expert types at OLED-info.com and the initial version at least were reported to be Samsung, though there's no word on if that changed when the monitor was cancelled and then uncancelled.

Also I do not know if they're the "pentile" variety that testbug00 hates so much.

If it goes on a good sale, I will be getting the 4K 1K nits Dell monitor.

Only another year or two until <1K now.
