Not big on details, seems we have to wait longer for that:

http://www.globalfoundries.com/newsr...soi-technology

the press release is followed by the comments of the usual suspects, Linley, VLSI, IBS, NXP. Verisilicon, CEALeti and Soitec.

But this one, i think is new to this show, and might open new doors for crazy theories :roll eyes:

Well. Ive known of Seronx since my days on xtremesystems (member since forever), so this comes as no suprice to me. He is one of the very VERY FEW people i actually listen to. This is from experience. Ive been dooing this for quite a few decades now, and when someone you respect, talks, you listen. You all would be wise to do the same.

agreed. The problem is, he often is to early, and completely wrong on some things.

Still, when he posts stuff, usually it is because he could dig into search engines and such to get information. iirc.

Zen + is supposed to be manufactured on 7nm FinFet. Can you give me a logical explanation for this crazy theory?

22nm ULP - 2017 (193i)
15nm UHP - 2018 (EUV) // Straight Shrinkable from 22nm
12nm ULP - 2019 (193i)
10nm UHP - 2020 (EUV) // Straight Shrinkable from 12nm
7nm ULP/UHP - 2022 (EUV)

Expect;
- BEOLs having the same stack just with a shrink;
22nm : 15nm
2x 80nm : 2x 56nm
4x-6x 90nm : 4x-6x 64nm
etc

- EUV FDSOI costs the same as near-nm 193i FinFETs and to perform faster at much lower voltages. (Nanowire channel with Omega-gate & bottom gate for quasi-GAA P-channel first)
- UHP products are targeting NTC w/ Temp Inver for High Performance.

So you're suggesting that GF are going to productise an early EUV process (likely low wafer/month) for expensive high-end designs?

The EUV nodes have been in the pipeline since 2009. The only thing hampering the node is ASML currently.

Dresden is ready.
Mask providers is ready.
The Rapid EUV misc tools for rapid production (>80 WPH) is ready.
etc is ready.
Only waiting for mass production EUV from ASML @ Dresden.

(Need to get that government dole for FDSOI. FinFETs go to Malta.)
