Default Kepler Taped Out

Kepler taped out already according to Faud, do we have any confirmation on this?

In that text, he refers that nVidia will not launch this year because TSMC needs time to make the process mature... ?!?!?

What about AMD? AMD is launching this year with an immature process? Yeah right xD

28LP (SiON) is more mature than 28HP/HPL/HPM (High-K Metal Gate)...?
I don't know but Charlie suggested TSMC's 28 nm is again having issues?

And Fudo really don't know the lead dates, eh? Even taping out in mid-June, NVIDIA can't meet the late-December date for launch, disregarding the yield rates or the maturity of the fabrication process. With a respin or two for a big die, NVIDIA will be looking at mid-February or late-March for a launch, a paper launch (yet again) if yields went down the toilet.

This sounds like a replay of Fudo making excuses for Fermi. Remember when Fudo claimed that Fermi would launch in November unless they needed extra time to make sure the drivers were solid.

Fermi taped out mid-July and the A3 spin didn't see volume until April of the following year. That's just A3, not A4 or A5. NVidia is at their weakest point during new process launches. Remember, Fermi wasn't entirely fixed until the launch of the GTX 580 15 months later.

I'm gonna guess similarly and guess at an early March launch for Kepler. I'll even go as far as saying the "official launch date" will be during the most appropriate trade show at that time period.

<cynical>
Mature for AMD designs is something different than mature for nVidia designs
</cynical>

On a more serious note. If SI taped out in februari, and Kepler only recently, than nVidia again is slacking behind on things.

Indeed, the curious part is that there are lots of people on others forums that use it against Charlie. Whenever there is a scoop from him, they claim: "Nah, Charlie is clueless, he said Fermi was broken, unfixable and unmanufacturable. And he was dead wrong, look how the GTX580 is a great card." I found impressive how these people completely disregard that it took NVIDIA 1 whole year to fix the chip, proving Charlie right, instead of wrong.

The more things change, the more they stay the same?

It's because of the word 'unfixable' I suppose. Poor choice of words.

He probably meant "unfixable" from a market perspective. Whenever you've got die 30% bigger than your competition yet you've got performance that's only -5 to 10% higher you've got a problem.
