New AMD CEO imminent

Sources say announcement in weeks

AMD - logoAMD’s (NYSE AMD) CEO search is nearing an end, or so sources in the know tell SemiAccurate. The final pieces are being put in to place now, so it is a matter of weeks before the announcement.

The unofficial word is that a new CEO is in the final stages of negotiating a deal, and it will be done in 4-6 weeks, but that news is a bit old by now. That said, 4-6 weeks sounds better than 3-5 weeks, but if you are thinking around month and a bit, that is in the ballpark. Likely candidates are the Q2 conference call, or in conjunction with AMD’s annual Teddy Bear Picnic Day events, or…. no, no, we won’t go there, it is better that way.

Sources also tell SemiAccurate that Carly is, thankfully, not the final candidate, indicating the wisdom on the AMD board. There were four other names bandied about who turned the offer down, but the one who said yes is still a mystery. I guess we will know soon.

If the information pans out, it will have been about 6 months since the ‘Dirking‘, about par for the course in a CEO search, especially an unplanned one. Pundits whining about the length are pretty clearly out of touch with candidate searches on this level, it is not a short process. Then again, given the showing of Brazos tablets at Computex, it is pretty clear that the same pundits were painfully wrong about the causes of the split too. On a technical level, the good that Dirk Meyer did is just becoming apparent, lets hope the new CEO can keep things going.S|A
