New tablet from Lenovo for both fun and business

First tablet to sport Netflix certification.

Lenovo (PINK:LNVGY)  today announced its first family of tablets – the IdeaPad Tablet K1 for consumers, the ThinkPad Tablet for business customers, and the IdeaPad Tablet P1 for home and office use. Lenovo is late to market compared to many competitors, but is tyring to differentiate itself.

The IdeaPad Tablet K1 is the world’s first tablet to sport certification from Netflix. It is squarely aimed at the private consumer who wants to be entertained. It is built around NVIDIA’s Tegra 2 pocessor and comes complete with Android 3.1 and 32GB of storage.

“The Tegra 2 dual core processor is the perfect fit for Lenovo’s tablets,” said Michael Rayfield, general manager, Mobile Business, NVIDIA. “Consumers can now enjoy the whole web with Flash, console quality gaming, high definition video, and streaming Netflix. These are a must have for today’s tablets.”

If you are more into the business use, but still want to be entertained, then take a closer look at the ThinkPad version that in addition to an optional keyboard also contains manageability features – making it easier to deploy for IT administrators. The ThinkPad Tablet comes with 16GB of storage.

Both IdeaPad K1 and ThinkPad Tablet have a screen with a resolution of 1280 x 800 and measures 10.1”. Pricing is set at 500 USD. The IdeaPad K1 goes on sale immediately with delivery in August. The ThinkPad tags along later this quarter. These dates are for the US only. Rest of world follows later – and some models will not be available in all markets.

Don’t despair if you are more of a Windows person than an Android aficionado. Lenovo also releases the IdeaPad Tablet P1 later this year. It is based on Intel’s well-known Atom-processor and runs Windows 7.

However, you can also now get your daily dose of Windows on an Android platform since VMware has just released the first beta version of their visualization client for Android that allows you to visualize a real Windows desktop on any Android device.

In order to differentiate itself from the rest of the pack Lenovo is also opening its own application store with applications that have been certified by the company.S|A
