Trinity by the numbers, speeds and feeds

Cores, counts, and megahertz, not much more

AMD is finally releasing their desktop Trinity to the unwashed masses, so here are the important details. Well half of them anyway, in today’s ‘preview’ we can’t share any prices.

The full specs for AMD's Trinity lineup

The specs in detail

As you can see, clock speeds are way up on Trinity, with a low base frequency of 3.2GHz and a high of 3.8. Turbo goes up to 4.2GHz, a magic number it seems for Bulldozer and Piledriver cores, not sure why. Perhaps it is a speed path issue? GPU clocks are in a tight range from 723Mhz to 800MHz turbo, base clocks run at 633MHz for the K parts, 608MHz for the K-less SKUs. Shader counts range from a mere 128 to 384 leaving Trinity with quite the GPU performance spread, not so much on the CPU side.

Other than that, not much more to add, power is in either 65W or 100W variants, but given the performance differences between the two of about 400MHz, the 65W versions seems like a far better choice. If I were picking one out, I would decide based on needed GPU performance more than anything else, but lets see where the prices end up before jumping to conclusions.S|A
