SemiAccurate spotted the first HDMI 2.1 cable in the wild last October at the Hong Kong Electronics Fair. Now that the spec is official, we thought we would tell you about this beauty.
As you might expect, the first certified HDMI 2.1 cables come from none other than Ningbo Kangda Electronics Co, LTD. OK, we hadn’t heard of them either but given what they had to show at the fair, it is likely you have used one of their OEM’d products before, they seem to make a lot of high end cables. And they claim to be the first to HDMI 2.1, something no one else at any of the HK electronics shows had on display.
The cables in question
As you can see the cables look like, well, HDMI cables. They are a little thicker, have fairly chunky heads, but otherwise are black with a standard HDMI connector on the end. See?
Your author doubles as a hand model
These cables are active and come in lengths up to 150 feet, yes really, with 200 foot models a distinct possibility in the nearish future. Other than that, well, they are HDMI 2.1 compatible, support everything you need from an HDMI 2.1 cable, the list is actually pretty long this revision, and are backwards compatible. No price was set but don’t expect them to be cheap, bleeding edge high end active electro-optical cables never are. That said if you need a 150 foot HDMI 2.1 cable, other than Ningbo Kangda, we don’t know of any.S|A
