The next race which could be as influential as finding Oil/coal is long under way. Unfortunately USA is getting behind because we'd rather spend Trillions fighting wars instead.

Indeed interesting as this was a very long time to get stable plasma in a Tokamak. But of what I understood about the differences of Tokamak and Stellarator design, the latter seems to be the now most promising design if Wendelstein-X is able to reach its goals. As when ITER was first planned the Stellarator design was deemed not yet build- and usable. The next 10 years will be the "make it or break it" timeline to know which will be the design of choice of the future.
