The names are very cool - Vega Core, Vega Eclipse and Vega Nova.

Let's keep our fingers crossed that the performance will be there, as expected.

On the topic of Vega: What the heck is AMD doing in the $200-$399 range? That's a large range of no product. That's also the range that I typically buy graphics cards (maybe more like $199-$250).
    custom Rx 480s and 580s.

Just like last gen, the $200-350 or so range is kind of dead.

Meh. I would think a smaller Vega would fit in that area quite nicely. But AMD's resources are clearly stretched thin and focused on their key products at the moment.

as long as they have a product that competes with the 1070, they don't need to.

    Nvidia has nothing these either.

I'm hopeful there are 2 Vega designs: One which is a bit slower than the 1080, cut a bit faster than the 1070. And another which is a bit faster than the Titan Xp and a bit slower than the 1080ti when cut.

Obviously higher performance of these is better, but I'm trying to be reasonable with my expectations.

What is the rumored die size of Vega? Fury X has 8.9 billion transistors at 596mm^2.

The low 500s, between 500 and 530 sq. mm.

Around 500mm2. I don't think any estimate was above 530mm2. Very big for the rumored CU/NCU count.

That's what I am thinking too. Did AMDs shaders become massively huge or did all the efficiency improvements ballon the die size?

    Something doesn't add up.

There is some added functionality to the shaders that allow them to help on other workloads I think.
